"We wish to support the intellectual growth of young people and to help them become mature individuals with a strong sense of collective identity."
A few words about us Kastelli Upper Secondary School was established in 1963. It is located in the city of Oulu in northern Finland. We have about 400 students. Some of our students have a specialised curriculum, emphasising sports. Our school is also known for its special expertise in the fields of natural sciences and mathematics. We also have an extensive language program and good international connections. Kastelli became non-graded in 1987, eight years earlier than most other upper secondary schools in Finland. Class communities broke up and became one-subject course groups lasting for one period of about six weeks. There is a test week after every period. The system has proved successful. The school accepts up to 100 new students each year, and our sports programme accepts 20 - 35 new students. |
